Evergreen, AL – November 15, 2024 – The Reid State Technical College Lions roared to their first victory of the 2024-2025 season, defeating the University of Mobile Rams JV 109-82 in a high-scoring affair at home. The win was a much-needed boost for a Lions team that had lost some close contests early in the season.
The Lions were firing on all cylinders in this contest, with several players stepping up to ensure a dominant performance. Reid State's offense was paced by Vophcy Prophete, who had a stellar outing with 22 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals. Supporting Prophete's effort was Tristan Watson, who contributed 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals, showing his all-around game in the win. Kiante Williams also made a significant impact, finishing with 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 blocks, providing both offense and defense in key moments. Perhaps the most notable performance came from Tyler Mallory, who not only scored 11 points but also dished out 11 assists, showcasing his ability to facilitate and set up his teammates for easy baskets. The Habitat Hard Hat Player of the Game was Avontree Costic, who was a constant presence on both ends of the floor. Costic finished with 13 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 steals, helping the Lions maintain their defensive intensity throughout the contest. Harry Gelin was solid with 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals, rounding out the top contributors for Reid State.
While the game was ultimately dominated by Reid State, the University of Mobile Rams JV had some standout performances. Kareem Harris led the way for the Rams, scoring 22 points, while Kaden Justice added 21 points. However, the duo's efforts weren't enough to overcome the firepower of the Lions, especially as Mobile JV struggled to slow down the Lions' offensive attack.
After the game, Reid State head coach Chris Hines expressed satisfaction with the victory but emphasized the need for improvement as the season progresses. "Always good to get a win at home, but we have to get better," Hines said.
The Lions will look to build on their first win as they hit the road for a tough matchup against Pensacola State College on Wednesday, November 20 at 7:00 PM in Pensacola, Florida. With their confidence boosted by the win, Reid State will be hungry to carry their momentum into the next contest.
