Andalusia, AL — November 25, 2024 — In a thrilling conference opener for both teams in the Alabama Community College Conference, Reid State Technical College came from behind in the second half to defeat the LBW Community College Saints, 68-57.
Despite trailing 32-29 at halftime, the Reid State Lions powered through a dominant second half to claim their first conference win of the season. With the victory, Reid State improved to a 2-5 overall record and 1-0 in conference play, while the Saints dropped to 2-2 on the season, falling to 0-1 in the conference.
The first half was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams trading baskets and playing tough defense. LBWCC's Amari Nealy led the charge for the Saints, scoring 17 points, keeping his team in the lead going into the break. Ederick Coleman added 10 points for the Saints in a well-balanced offensive attack.
However, the Lions came out of the locker room with renewed energy and intensity. Reid State's Kiante Williams led the charge in the second half, finishing the game with 19 points and 5 rebounds. His scoring, along with key contributions from Aaron Brown, who scored 12 points, helped Reid State take control of the game. Tyler Mallory and Tristan Watson also stepped up with 10 points each, providing scoring depth to complement Williams' leadership.
Reid State's defense was a significant factor in the second half, holding the Saints to just 25 points after the break. The Lions' defense stifled LBWCC's offense and forced several key turnovers, shifting the momentum in their favor.
For LBWCC, Nealy's 17 points were not enough to sustain the lead in the second half, as the Saints struggled to find consistent offensive rhythm. The Saints' defense also faced challenges against Reid State's balanced attack, as the Lions capitalized on every opportunity.
Reid State's victory marks a strong start to their conference campaign, and they will look to build momentum as they head into their next game. The Lions matchup against Enterprise State Community College on Tuesday, December 3rd at 7 p.m in Evergreen, AL.
